MARUI KOI Porcelain Vase

A quiet form for the space between

MARUI is a sculptural vase made from coloured porcelain — soft in form and quiet in presence. It does not try to dominate a space. Instead, it allows light to travel across its rounded silhouette, subtly changing the way the object appears throughout the day.

Its name comes from the Japanese word 丸い — marui — meaning round, soft and full. The vase is also inspired by the idea of ma (間): the pause and the space between things that allows form to acquire meaning.

Drawn and carved by hand

Each koi begins as a drawing by Kati. The motif is transferred onto the surface of the vase by hand and carved into the porcelain before the final firing.

The delicate relief remains in the same cream tone as the body of the vase. It does not compete with the form. It reveals itself gradually as the light and viewing angle change.

Every piece is handmade in our Warsaw studio. Subtle variations in the surface, illustration and colour are a natural part of the process. No two MARUI vases are exactly alike.

Made especially for you

MARUI is not taken from a warehouse shelf. We begin making each vase after receiving your order and confirming the payment.

Every vase receives an individual number. Numbers are assigned consecutively according to the order in which payments are confirmed.
